called upon the city police officer (CPO) to direct Jatli police to shed
laziness and inaction. Daylight robbery on Sunday morning near a village
on the eastern side of police station, Jatli, has further shoved the
residents in the grip of panic and insecurity. Three unidentified armed
robbers looted a motorist, snatched rupees 22 thousand cash, one mobile
phone, one ATM card, an identity card and
other documents and made off on their motorbike towards village Guliana

comfortably made good their escape. According to details, Yasir Ali son
of Muhammad Akhtar, resident of village Jand Gujran told Jatli police in
a written application that he was going to village Theekrian with his
maternal uncle Chaudary Muhammad Nazir in his Alto car (AKA - 42) at
about 9:15 am on Sunday. When they were crossing a low-lying
nullah on a makeshift unpaved path near village Dera Muslim, as the
bridge across the nullah was collapsed, a motorcyclist coming from the
opposite side stopped in front of their car, thus intercepting their
way. In the meantime, two more men appeared on the scene all of a sudden
and pulled out their revolvers at them, the applicant told the police.
The three dacoits demanded of them to hand over all the cash and other
valuables to them. The applicant Yasir who was driving his car further
said that the looters took rupees five thousand cash and rupees 17

Partiality reigns supreme in
police station, Jatli

GUJAR KHAN: Jatli police have arrested a complainant/applicant of
an FIR in another case which was registered against him on behalf of the
relatives of the accused, 12 days after he got an FIR registered against
the accused. According to details, Habibur Rehman, resident of Dera
Muslim, situated in the jurisdiction of police station, Jatli, had
lodged a complaint against five persons of his village on 11th May.
According to the FIR which was registered on 15th May, four days after
it was lodged, the complainant told the Jatli police that five persons
Noor Ahmed, Mrs. Farzand and her
three sons Khurshid (drunk), Yasir and Babar entered his house at about
10:30 at night, by breaking the door of his grocery shop which is
adjacent to his house. First they ransacked the shop, damaged shop
commodities and then trespassing on their house, they started thrashing
him and his children. Hearing the noise and shrieks, the villagers came
to their rescue and intervened in the night brawl.
Jatli police was immediately informed about the happening and duty
officer ASI Khalil Ahmed visited
the site of the incident, saw circumstantial & material evidence of the
happening. After listening to
the complainant Habibur Rehman in the presence of Union Council Nazim,
advocate Yahya Faiz, the police officer assured him (complainant) that
those guilty would be brought to book. Registration of an FIR was
delayed malafide for about four days, thereby giving the accused some
time to force reconciliation on the complainant. When efforts for
reconciliation failed, an FIR was registered on 15th May under sections
452and 427. The police went to the house of the accused only once in
16 days to “see” them. The Investigation Officer (IO) ASI Khalil Ahmed
had been reportedly threatening the complainant, saying he (complainant)
had got a false case registered against the accused. And no arrest was
made during the aforesaid 16 days. Then on 27th May, things worsened for
Habibur Rehman when an FIR was registered with Jatli police against him
on the application of close relatives of the accused. Charges of
misappropriation and theft were leveled against him under sections 406
and 380. On 7th June, Habibur Rehman was arrested by Jatli police while

Education a must for
advancement of country |

GUJAR KHAN: Youths should devote
all their efforts to getting education as the future of our country lies
in their hands. Educated people can provide the country with clean,
honest, pure and unsullied leadership and politician. This was stated by
PPP MPA Raja Tariq Kiani while addressing the students on the occasion
of declaration of annual results of a private college Al-Sardar
Foundation here on Sunday.
The MPA quoted an example of Sparta where people sacrificed their
wealth, treasures, and ornaments to be able give education to their
children. As result of this crusade which needs to be carried in favour
of getting more and more education, the state can become prosperous and
democratically advanced, he added.
Raja Tariq Kiani remarked that four persons---law-maker, politician, a
general and a (religious) scholar----play a pivotal role in developing a
society. They are instrumental in bringing about betterment of the
public. They the intelligentsia of a civil society; the fate and future,
that is, destruction or improvement, of a society lies in their ken. The
PPP MPA deplored that the situation in almost all the Muslim countries
was not far different and the intelligentsia in the respective countries
is responsible for the degradation and deterioration of political,
democratic, social, economic, and educational norms. He accused them
that they have suppressed the futuristic potential in their countries.
He observed that Pakistan is no exception in this regard. And the same
group has usurped our country, he said.
Raja Kiani remarked that this quadruple group has hatched a conspiracy
against the poor but the intelligent of the country and are being kept
away from the helms of the state affairs on purpose and by plot. He said
that politics is considered to a form of worship and service in the west
but in the developing countries like Pakistan, it is looked down upon.
Suggesting the solution of the quagmire, the MPA said that the students
of low and middle classes should concentrate only and only on their
education. They should get education at every cost and they can bring
about a revolution which will bring then down those who are up and up
who are down. The panacea of our ills whatsoever lies only in getting
education which will sound the death-knell of ignorance, poverty,
corruption, oppression, injustice cruelty and exploitation, the MPA
maintained.
On this occasion, the chief guest, MPA Raja Tariq Kiani and other guests
including local educationists gave away prizes to the students of the
college who brilliantly during the recently concluded academic year.
Syed Zain was declared the best student of the year.
Zafar Pagaora, a UK based-Pakistani and a leader of PML (Q) announced
that he would donate five computers and 100 chairs for the college.
While speaking to the audience, the Principal of the college spoke
highly of the skills and diligence of his teachers and threw light on
the achievements of the students and the college. |

GUJAR KHAN: A bridge on one of the major
roads in the western part of Tehsil Gujar Khan has
caved in on 26th March, dividing the western part of
the Tehsil in two parts and cutting off transport
service. Almost a month has passed but neither Town
Municipal Administration (TMA) nor District Government
has done anything to repair /reconstruct the collapse
bridge. The residents and commuters are facing
injuries and inconvenience due to the collapse. They
have appealed to the district government to get it
reconstructed on emergency basis and thus restore road link as early as
possible.
A small bridge on Guliana-to-Bhangali link road
near village Dera Muslim has collapsed as the recent
rains softened the foundations of the bridge and the
supportive wall of the bridge has given way, bringing
the bridge down. The collapse has cut off the road
links due to which the residents and travellers of the
areas are facing a lot of convenience.
On Tuesday, a motorcyclist who plunged into the
collapsed bridge, sustained serious head injuries
while his wife also injured. Chaudary Muhammad Gulzar, resident of Mohra
Gujran was coming back home along with his wife Munawar Sultana on his
motorbike (RLE-8339) and they fell headlong into the collapsed bridge as
they were not aware of missing bridge. As a result of the fall, Chaudary
Muhammad Gulzar received critical head injuries and became unconscious
while his wife’s leg was fractured. They were rushed to Tehsil
Headquarter Hospital here. The condition of Chaudary Muhammad Gulzar was
so critical that he was hifted to District Headquarters Hospital,
Rawalpindi. He had not regained consciousness till the filing of this
report.
The commuters and residents of the area have
asked the district government to get the bridge
reconstructed at the earliest as it is a major and
busy road of the area. It links Guliana Road (which
branches off from Grand Trunk Road) to Chakwal Road
connecting almost all the major villages of the area. |

GUJAR KHAN: A crossing on the dual carriageway at Guliana More
here has virtually become an accident black spot as it caused many road
fatalities. A labyrinth of five roads dividing into at least seven lanes
converges and diverges here. Two lanes of dual carriageway coming from
Lahore go to Rawalpindi and again two lanes on the other side of the
dual carriageway lead to Lahore from Rawalpindi.
The dual carriageway is flanked by service roads on
either side. A subway coming from Guliana town also
crosses all these roads and lanes at this turn
/junction (Guliana More).
A majority of victims of accidents so far occurred here were
rickshaw-drivers & their passengers, motorcyclists and cyclists. Not
caring to slow down in the residential areas, traffic on the dual
carriageway moves at a breakneck speed. And these road crossers fail to
judge the distance and speed of the coming vehicles on the dual
carriageway and as they attempt to cross the road, they meet with
accident. These accidents have often resulted in death. Last year, a
motorcyclist named Usman son of Raza met with accident right at this
crossing when a speedy car coming from Sohawa side ploughed head-on into
side of his motorbike when he was crossing the dual carriageway. A few
months ago, a rickshaw loaded
with passengers was hit by speedy car. The passengers of the rickshaw
were seriously injured, although the rickshaw was badly damaged. A
cyclist named Ali son of Ulfat Hussain, was also killed here about three
years back when a passenger van crashed into his bicycle when he was in
the act of crossing the road.
National Highway Authority (NHA) did not make a U-turn at the main city
Chowk here, showing good sense to avert any road mishap. Instead, it
made two U-turns a little away from the main Chowk on both
sides of it. But it showed the opposite of the same
while making a fatal road-crossing at Guliana More. A
similar plan could have easily been executed here
which not only had filtered the G.T. road traffic but
had saved many lives by averting traffic accidents.
The project would not have cost more, to boot.
There is a dire need to close this death-trap and construct two U-turns
a few yards away both to the left and right of the present crossing. |
